Partnering with the Alyn Scholarship Fund

We form strong partnerships with our member schools and assist them by designing and implementing fundraising campaigns specifically to improve their Education Tax Credit Scholarship donations.  We understand that schools are in the business of education and that their time and resources are limited in regards to effective fundraising.  At ASF, we work to minimize the fundraising efforts of our member schools and provide a full service consulting service that drives the fundraising plan to meet it’s established goals.

Our goal is accomplished when your goals are attained.

Education is a key component to the success of this program , so we work very hard to ensure that all stakeholders (parents, faculty, Board members, donors) are properly educated on the Education Tax Credit program.  From on-line information found on our website, to printed brochures and live Power Point presentations, we are here as a resource to ensure that all stakeholders accurately understand the program.

Case Studies

In working with a small Christian private school (Pre-K – 5th Grade), we implemented an aggressive fundraising plan which resulted in a 37% increase in donations in the first year.  The following year, we increased the value of their requested donations by an additional 48%.  In just two years, we more than doubled the dollar value of the school’s donation requests.

Partnered with a private school to design and implement a scholarship program from concept to inception.  With this particular school having never participated in the Education Tax Credit program, we were starting from ground zero.  We developed the fundraising plan and with the help of many committed individuals, were able to secure scholarship funds that, in the first year, very nearly reached six figures!  Additionally, we worked with the school’s Board of Directors and Administration to help develop the scholarship process and award parameters that aligned with their particular needs.

Partnered with a private school who wished to be involved with the Education Tax Credit Scholarship program on a limited basis. A system was designed where the school managed the scholarship process for Pre-K and Kindergarten students and all other students came directly to ASF.  This system kept the administrative burden on the school to a minimum while leveraging the experience and expertise of ASF to administer the scholarship process for the rest of their student body.  While unique, this system created a Win/Win for both the school and their students.

School Choice – Scholarship Choice

With the Alyn Scholarship Fund, parents have two avenues for obtaining a scholarship through Georgia’s Education Tax Credit program.

1) For those parents whose child attends a private school with a working agreement in place with ASF, they can obtain a scholarship through the school’s financial aid process (subject to the availability of funds).

2) For those parents whose child attends a private school that does not have a working agreement with ASF, they can request a Scholarship Application to receive a scholarship directly from ASF (subject to the availability of funds).

You choose the method that is right for your situation.

Please keep in mind that for students in 2nd through 12th grade that it’s a requirement of the program that a student be deemed eligible and awarded a scholarship prior to enrolling in a private school.  So, it’s imperative that youcomplete the scholarship process for this program first, and then, enroll your child in the private school of your choice.

Scholarships Awarded through Schools

The Alyn Scholarship Fund partners with Georgia private schools to offer Education Tax Credit Scholarships.  Through a formal working agreement, each individual school develops its own scholarship committee that determines who receives a scholarship and for what amount.  Once a scholarship is awarded, the school then provides the necessary paperwork to ASF to process a check made out to the student in the amount of the scholarship award.  The check is sent directly to the school and the student’s parent/guardian must go to the school to endorse the check for the school to deposit.

Scholarship applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Georgia resident eligible to enroll in Pre-K, Kindergarten or First grade
  • Georgia resident transferring from a Georgia public school to a Georgia private school                           (*minimum of six weeks attended at public school prior to transferring)
  • Georgia resident transferring to a Georgia private school from a home school                                               (must have been home schooled for a minimum of one year)
  • Georgia resident currently receiving or has previously received an Education Tax Credit scholarship

*  The requirement to attend a public school for at least six weeks can be waived in the following instances:
1) A student is or would be assigned to a public school that the Office of Student Achievement determines to be a  low-performing school based on the school attendance zone of his or her primary residence.
2) A student is the subject of officially documented cases of school based physical violence or student related verbal abuse threatening physical harm.

If a student meets one of the requirements above, they are eligible to be considered for a scholarship.  Parents must then provide a copy of their most recently filed Federal tax return to evaluate the level of need.  Further documentation such as recent pay stubs, unemployment or worker’s compensation receipts, social security benefits letter and child support documents may be necessary to complete the scholarship process.

Please note that private schools must meet the following requirements for the scholarship program to be available to their students:
1) Must be accredited or be in the process of obtaining accreditation.
2) The private school must be physically located with the state of Georgia.
3) The school must abide by federal and state laws pertaining to educational institutions.

Once a scholarship is awarded, to remain eligible in subsequent years, the student must continue to be enrolled in a Georgia private school and be in good standing with the school both academically and behaviorally.

Scholarships Awarded Directly from ASF

For students who wish to attend a Georgia private school that does not have a current working agreement in place with ASF, they can apply for a scholarship directly through ASF (subject to the availability of scholarship funds).

When a scholarship award is granted directly through the Alyn Scholarship Fund, ASF sends a Scholarship Agreement to be signed by the parents.  Each ASF scholarship is awarded for the entire time that the student is enrolled at the participating school (subject to the availability of designated scholarship funds). The ASF Scholarship Agreement sets forth the amount of the scholarship for the initial year and then reevaluates the level of scholarship awarded on an annual basis.  To remain eligible in subsequent years, the student must continue to be enrolled in a Georgia private school and be in good standing with the school both academically and behaviorally.

Once a scholarship is awarded, a check is made out in the name of the student and sent directly to the student’s school.  The student’s parent/guardian must go to the school to endorse the check for the school to deposit.
